Who we are

Welcome to Opening Up — a space for performers and theatre lovers of all ages to connect, grow, and share their passion for the stage.

Founded by Amy Austen, a professional performer and composer, Opening Up was created with one big goal: to make the theatre world feel a little more open, inclusive, and inspiring. Whether you’re just starting out, returning to performing, or simply love musical theatre, you’re welcome here!

This project is deeply personal to Amy. It was inspired by The Singers Space, a wonderful community led by Michael Freeman, who sadly passed away in 2023. Michael gave so many people — Amy included — the confidence and encouragement to follow their creative path, no matter their background or level of training. That sense of belonging and possibility is exactly what Amy hopes to carry forward through Opening Up.

We offer masterclasses with West End performers and theatre professionals, along with friendly, cabaret-style concerts where you can perform, watch, or just soak up the joy of live music. More than anything, Opening Up is about making space for people to learn, to be inspired, and to be part of something supportive and real.

You don’t need a degree or an agent to get involved — just a love of performing and a willingness to try. We can’t wait to watch you step into the spotlight.
